My Discernment Journey

Nick interviews the bright, young David Billings, a teenager who started his own website for young people discerning their true calling in life. David talks about his desire from a young age to be involved in the mass, discerning his own vocation, being homeschooled, and how he turned his passion into a website for helping others to discover their true vocation. David’s website offers a simple avenue for those beginning their journey of discernment towards marriage, religious life, or single-life. 

My name is David Billings. I am 16 years old and live in Greenville, SC with my family of four siblings and two amazing parents, Troy and Kathleen. From a young age I have had an immense love and adoration for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, particularly within the context of the Holy Mass. I have also always had a deep admiration for the role of a priest as "Persona Christi" (in the person of Christ.) Since the age of seven I have faithfully assisted at the altar nearly every Sunday and I have thoroughly enjoyed the fraternity with the other servers. As my faith grew and deepened, so did my passion for discovering God's will for my life. The possibility of the priesthood was often on my mind, so I began researching, studying, and praying about the life of a priest. I met and spoke with several priests and watched many inspiring vocation stories online. It was from this deep dive into the life of a priest and my own personal discernment that the website Mission Possible was born. In the Summer of 2023, on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, June 29th, I officially launched this website! The goal? To provide a well rounded and inspiring resource to help people discern God's will for their lives. The website features vocation stories from devout Catholics of all walks of life, - sacramentally married men and women, consecrated single life and religious life. In addition, you will find the "Diocese Vocation Finder" which allows for you to have immediate contact with your diocese's vocation office. Simply locate your diocese and click the button which will redirect you to your prospective diocese's vocations page and resources. I pray as you progress through your spiritual discernment, that you will find peace and joy as you discover God's unique calling for your life. Please be assured of my prayers!
